Alaska climate
Alaska roofs face specific climate stressors — subarctic to arctic conditions plus ice damming and snow load — that demand different specs than the state next door. Your assigned roofing contractor calibrates material, ventilation, and underlayment to local code and weather load.
| Metric | Alaska average | Implication for your roof |
|---|---|---|
| Average annual snowfall | 75″ | Ice-dam underlayment + ice-and-water shield required at eaves and valleys. |
| Average annual rainfall | 30″ | Standard drip-edge + sealed valleys per IRC R905. |
| Hail risk | low | Standard architectural shingle systems perform well across Alaska. |
| Hurricane / coastal wind | No | Standard wind-rated shingles (110 mph) cover inland conditions. |
For most Alaska homes, standing-seam metal and architectural shingle are the two most-installed systems. Asphalt shingles remain the most affordable roofing option; standing-seam metal is the longest-lasting (40–70 years).
Roofing services
Roof-Master Alaska installs and repairs every residential roof system — architectural shingle re-roofs, standing-seam metal, hail/wind storm restoration, leak repair, gutter installation, and Class 4 impact-rated upgrades — same network across all 24 Alaska cities.
| Service | Typical SLA | Most-requested in |
|---|---|---|
| Free roof inspection | Same week | Statewide Alaska |
| Storm-damage assessment + tarp | 24–48h | Anchorage, Fairbanks |
| Roof repair (leaks, missing shingles, flashing) | 2–3 business days | Statewide Alaska |
| Full re-roof (architectural shingle) | 1–3 days on-site | Statewide Alaska |
| Standing-seam metal roof installation | 3–5 days on-site | Rural / agricultural areas |
| Gutter installation + gutter-guard upgrades | 1 day | Statewide Alaska |

"Absolutely fantastic operators. I found Storm Proof when looking at google reviews, and wondered if was too good to be true, but they’re the real deal. Had Storm Proof perform a full roof replacement on my Mom’s 1950’s vintage, large flat roof, which had been repaired and patched numerous times over the decades. After talking through in great detail (at my request), we decided to do a full replacement. Got the quote in April 2025, with work scheduled for June 2025, and as the date drew near, they provided updates and pivoted to work around the rain. That was in June 2025, and it’s now December 2025 and couldn’t be happier. I don’t usually write reviews, but felt compelled to do so in this case, as they are really, really good. Matt communicates as appropriate, and responds to questions very promptly (and I asked a LOT of questions in the run up to the roof replacement). I would add that Matt remained communicative and responsive well after the roof replacement was done and they’d been paid. Again, I couldn’t recommend more highly. This is how a business should be run. I posted one picture while the crew was working, and another of the finished product. Thank you Storm Proof!"

"This company delivered an exceptional experience from start to finish. They arrived right at 8:00 AM as scheduled and immediately got to work. The 8-man crew was efficient, professional, and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work, which made a big difference. The entire job was completed in just one day. Even when it started to rain toward the end, the team kept going without hesitation. Steve took the time to speak with both my husband and me, and later returned to finish caulking the roof to ensure everything was sealed properly. Mathew was excellent with communication—he responded quickly to emails and texts, which made the process smooth and reassuring. They cleaned up thoroughly after the job, leaving no mess behind. While the price was a bit higher than other quotes we received, the quality of work and level of service far exceeded our expectations. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality roofing work. A great experience all around!"

"Great communication and workmanship. They provide photographs of their work in progress and to project completion. They also added a little painting up on the eaves which was greatly appreciated on a high roof line. This is the second roof they’ve done for me and I highly recommend them."

"We had some minor wind damage to our roof from the latest windstorms. I called over 10 roof repair shops in Anchorage and described the damage. The answers I got ranged from we only do new installs, we are booked for the year, the job is too small as described. I was walking through my neighborhood with my dogs and walked by Holland roofing so decided to send them an email. They responded very quickly with a minimum estimate and said they would put me on the list. The estimate seemed on the high side to me so I sent them a picture of the damage and gave them a call. They were friendly and justified the estimate which was sound. I was courteous and just explained I understand everything is expensive and everybody is busy but that we are neighbors and live right down the street. We reviewed the pictures of the damage and were able to come to a price agreement that worked for both of us knowing if there was damage I had missed then the estimate will go up. We waited less then 3 weeks and the team showed up, fixed the damage, and checked on the rest of the roof for us to make sure there was not anymore damage. Customer service is hard to come by in Anchorage and I think it has to do with both sides being frustrated. 1 polite conversation and understanding from both sides goes along way. Holland roofing is very professional and courteous. I will use them for any future roofing problems I have and would recommend them to everyone. Thank you Holland Roofing!"

"We experienced extensive damage to our roof as a result of a fallen tree. Within hours Holland Roofing was able to enclose and make weather tight the damaged area. We were so impressed with their professionalism and quality of work that we were happy to have our entire roof replaced! This is one of those companies we can recommend with complete confidence. How nice to know there is a business who truly does care about the client and does quality work."

"Would have been willing to pay double to not deal with the office staff. I even wished multiple times I had used a different company - they were that annoying. Every time I called with a question despite it just being a question I was met with a defensive attitude. They took over a year and a half to get to my roof. They never called with updates in the spring just to make sure we were still here and ready to go or offer a possible timeline. When I called in to check in on when my roof might happen they told me it wasn’t their responsibility to let me the customer know when or how long it might be or even if it would be this year (despite holding my deposit hostage). The crew fortunately finally showed up two days before I was going to call and scrap the whole job.(My trust in them was that shattered and I was that ticked off that I’d of waited another year with a different company). I’m happy to say that the crew at my house (when they finally did get to me) were awesome! Very respectful of my home, super nice guys. A bunch of the crew was new to the job and seemed to need some direction which fortunately their foreman provided. They took a while to get it done but it looks fantastic. I have friends looking to put on new roofs and while I loved the crew and their workmanship I can’t recommend them."

If more than 25% of your shingles show storm damage, granule loss, lifting, or curling, full replacement usually beats patch repair on lifecycle cost. Alaska insurance carriers also use this threshold — once 25% of a roof slope is damaged by a covered peril, most policies pay to replace the entire slope rather than repair it. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) treats 25% as the standard repair-vs-replace inflection point.
For a typical 2,000 sq ft (≈22-square) Alaska home with architectural shingle, plan on $11,400 including tear-off, decking inspection, ice-and-water shield, drip edge, and a manufacturer-registered warranty. Standing-seam metal runs roughly 2–3× that figure but lasts 40–70 years. Repair-only jobs run $380–$1,800 with $1,100 the average roofing-repair-project spend.
Five red flags every Alaska homeowner should watch for: (1) door-knockers showing up after a storm with no local address, (2) demands for full payment upfront — standard deposit is 25–30% with the balance due after final inspection, (3) no written, itemized estimate with named materials and brand, (4) verbal "guarantee" instead of a written manufacturer + workmanship warranty, and (5) no proof of $1M+ general liability insurance and workers compensation. Always verify the contractor in your state's online registry and the BBB before signing.
Late winter through early spring (typically February–April) is the cheapest time to schedule a Alaska roof replacement. Demand is lowest, crews have open calendars, and contractors often discount 5–15%. Avoid the August–October peak when storm-damage claims spike. Emergency repairs are available year-round.
Contractors require a state license through the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development.
Given Alaska's subarctic to arctic climate, the most popular choices are standing-seam metal, architectural shingle. Local building practices, hail and wind risk, and snow load all factor in — your assigned local roofing contractor recommends the right system after a free inspection.
ice damming is the leading roof issue in Alaska, followed by snow load and wind uplift.
Most Alaska homeowners get a written, itemized quote within one business hour of submitting our online form. Your assigned roofing professional schedules an in-home inspection within 2–3 business days, and active leaks get same-day emergency tarping in major metros.
