Utah climate
Utah roofs face specific climate stressors — arid to semi-arid conditions plus ice damming and snow load — that demand different specs than the state next door. Your assigned roofing contractor calibrates material, ventilation, and underlayment to local code and weather load.
| Metric | Utah average | Implication for your roof |
|---|---|---|
| Average annual snowfall | 56″ | Ice-dam underlayment + ice-and-water shield required at eaves and valleys. |
| Average annual rainfall | 16″ | Standard drip-edge + sealed valleys per IRC R905. |
| Hail risk | moderate | Architectural shingles with sealed strips handle most Utah weather. |
| Hurricane / coastal wind | No | Standard wind-rated shingles (110 mph) cover inland conditions. |
For most Utah homes, architectural shingle and standing-seam metal are the two most-installed systems. Asphalt shingles remain the most affordable roofing option; standing-seam metal is the longest-lasting (40–70 years).
Roofing services
Roof-Master Utah installs and repairs every residential roof system — architectural shingle re-roofs, standing-seam metal, hail/wind storm restoration, leak repair, gutter installation, and Class 4 impact-rated upgrades — same network across all 97 Utah cities.
| Service | Typical SLA | Most-requested in |
|---|---|---|
| Free roof inspection | Same week | Statewide Utah |
| Storm-damage assessment + tarp | 24–48h | Salt Lake City, Provo |
| Roof repair (leaks, missing shingles, flashing) | 2–3 business days | Statewide Utah |
| Full re-roof (architectural shingle) | 1–3 days on-site | Statewide Utah |
| Standing-seam metal roof installation | 3–5 days on-site | Rural / agricultural areas |
| Gutter installation + gutter-guard upgrades | 1 day | Statewide Utah |

"I was pleased with IWC. They made it possible for me to get a new roof and they were super easy to work with. The roofing crew came and worked hard to get the roof completed as promised. They informed me ahead of time the steps they would take in replacing the roof. During the construction they sent me photos of the steps they had completed and a final picture when the roof was completed. They did a great clean up and respectful of my property. Great company!"

"They replaced my entire roof in one day with their hard-working crew. They started at 7 am and were still cleaning up at 10 pm at night when I turned on the floodlights for them. They came back for a smaller side section the next morning and, without my saying a word, to also check on some gutter and venting to make sure it was sealed properly. I can't believe they did the whole thing so neatly; the crew is so organized in their execution of replacement. They covered my bushes and windows and garage, contacted me a couple of times during the replacement with a couple of simple questions and cleaned up everything so neatly. I would highly recommend them. The price was very reasonable. The setting up of the timing and getting the contract signed was so easily accomplished via text and email. Definitely no hard-sell and they even gave my neighbor a referral bonus. I was about to write my already outstanding review when I was surprised with yet another fantastic service; they power-washed my driveway after it was all done! I have been stressing over my roof replacement for 2-3 years and they made is worry-free."

"After comparing multiple roofing bids—many of which came with high pressure sales tactics—IWC quickly rose to the top. Their pricing was very competitive, the sales process was refreshingly straightforward, and their workmanship and material warranties were the best we found. In a single day, they removed and hauled away our old roof, swamp cooler, and satellite dish, completed roof repairs and resurfacing, and even refinished our garden shed so everything matched, including the ridge vents. We were so impressed with all their work. The crew was courteous and professional, took care to protect our landscaping, and left the property clean. We confidently recommend IWC to anyone needing roofing work around the Wasatch Front."

"We loved our experience with A1 Roofing! Israel and his crew took care of us from start to finish. Not only did they do a beautiful job on our roof but we also had them replace our siding that had hail damage. Cassidy was incredible at communicating with the insurance company. We were given the opportunity upgrade our siding which has made such a difference on the look of the house. It has even cut us cost on utilities. We love the finished product and would recommend them to everyone!!"

"I cannot say enough great things about A1 Roofing. I have been extremely impressed with their efficiency, professionalism, communication, and overall patience throughout this entire process. From start to finish, the workmanship was outstanding. The speed at which they removed my old roof and installed the new one was incredible, they arrived exactly when they said they would and completed everything, including full cleanup, before it even got dark (and this was in the fall with shorter daylight hours). As someone who had never gone through a roofing project before, I truly appreciated how supportive and informative the team was. Israel, Cassidy, Michael, and Eduardo were absolutely top-notch. They answered all of my questions thoroughly and never once made me feel uninformed or uncomfortable for not knowing the process. Their communication and professionalism at every step made the experience smooth and stress-free. I was also very impressed with how clean and organized they kept the job site. The attention to detail and respect for my property really stood out. I am beyond pleased with the entire A1 Roofing team and would highly recommend them to anyone needing any type of roofing work done. Excellent experience all around!"

"WOW! A1 did an amazing job on the roof install. They were great about reviewing the steps and letting me know what to expect. Even better than that A1 and their team help me fight, for nearly a year, and convince my insurance to take care of my roof. My insurance company got down right ridiculous with some of the things they request us to document and prove. Those requests causing A1 to have to come out and get on my roof several times all without ever knowing for sure if the job would ever work out. I am more than words can express grateful for their efforts which saved me thousands of dollars! Their attention and kindness cannot be measured. You’d be a fool to use anyone else."

If more than 25% of your shingles show storm damage, granule loss, lifting, or curling, full replacement usually beats patch repair on lifecycle cost. Utah insurance carriers also use this threshold — once 25% of a roof slope is damaged by a covered peril, most policies pay to replace the entire slope rather than repair it. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) treats 25% as the standard repair-vs-replace inflection point.
For a typical 2,000 sq ft (≈22-square) Utah home with architectural shingle, plan on $11,400 including tear-off, decking inspection, ice-and-water shield, drip edge, and a manufacturer-registered warranty. Standing-seam metal runs roughly 2–3× that figure but lasts 40–70 years. Repair-only jobs run $380–$1,800 with $1,100 the average roofing-repair-project spend.
Five red flags every Utah homeowner should watch for: (1) door-knockers showing up after a storm with no local address, (2) demands for full payment upfront — standard deposit is 25–30% with the balance due after final inspection, (3) no written, itemized estimate with named materials and brand, (4) verbal "guarantee" instead of a written manufacturer + workmanship warranty, and (5) no proof of $1M+ general liability insurance and workers compensation. Always verify the contractor in your state's online registry and the BBB before signing.
Late winter through early spring (typically February–April) is the cheapest time to schedule a Utah roof replacement. Demand is lowest, crews have open calendars, and contractors often discount 5–15%. Avoid the August–October peak when storm-damage claims spike. Emergency repairs are available year-round.
Utah requires an S280 Roofing license through the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL).
Given Utah's arid to semi-arid climate, the most popular choices are architectural shingle, standing-seam metal, concrete tile. Local building practices, hail and wind risk, and snow load all factor in — your assigned local roofing contractor recommends the right system after a free inspection.
ice damming is the leading roof issue in Utah, followed by snow load and UV degradation.
Most Utah homeowners get a written, itemized quote within one business hour of submitting our online form. Your assigned roofing professional schedules an in-home inspection within 2–3 business days, and active leaks get same-day emergency tarping in major metros.
A typical asphalt shingle roof replacement in Utah ranges from $8,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on roof size, pitch, number of stories, material choice, and complexity. The average Utah home (about 2,000 sq ft footprint) with a standard Duration shingle costs between $10,000 and $16,000.
The 25% Rule in roofing serves as a guideline for both homeowners and contractors when planning roofing projects. Basically, it means that if more than 25% of your roof's surface needs repairs, it's often wiser to contemplate a full replacement rather than patchwork.
Fall is considered the best time to schedule a roofing project because it often boasts the best temperature range for roof installation. The weather has cooled off from summer highs, but it hasn't gotten too cold yet.
Roof-Master matches you with a vetted Utah licensed contractor in your zip within minutes.
