North Dakota climate
North Dakota roofs face specific climate stressors — humid continental to semi-arid conditions plus snow load and ice damming — that demand different specs than the state next door. Your assigned roofing contractor calibrates material, ventilation, and underlayment to local code and weather load.
| Metric | North Dakota average | Implication for your roof |
|---|---|---|
| Average annual snowfall | 41″ | Ice-dam underlayment + ice-and-water shield required at eaves and valleys. |
| Average annual rainfall | 18″ | Standard drip-edge + sealed valleys per IRC R905. |
| Hail risk | severe | Class 4 impact-rated shingles cut insurance premiums 5–35% in North Dakota. |
| Hurricane / coastal wind | No | Standard wind-rated shingles (110 mph) cover inland conditions. |
For most North Dakota homes, standing-seam metal and Class 4 impact shingle are the two most-installed systems. Asphalt shingles remain the most affordable roofing option; standing-seam metal is the longest-lasting (40–70 years).
Roofing services
Roof-Master North Dakota installs and repairs every residential roof system — architectural shingle re-roofs, standing-seam metal, hail/wind storm restoration, leak repair, gutter installation, and Class 4 impact-rated upgrades — same network across all 12 North Dakota cities.
| Service | Typical SLA | Most-requested in |

"0 Stars — Extremely Disappointed with Fargo Roofing and Siding Fargo Roofing and Siding roofed my house on June 13, and the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. During the project, they left part of my roof open while it was raining, which caused water spots on my brand new ceiling tiles. They did pay for that damage, but that was only the beginning of several serious issues. The project consultant, Ryan, told me the house “was not structurally level” or that my “fascia boards were warped” when I pointed out that part of the roofline didn’t look right. When Mike, a manager, came out to inspect the problem, he discovered that the drip edge had been installed on top of planter holders instead of removing them or asking me to do so. This caused the drip edge to sit unevenly and made the roof appear crooked — something that should never have happened if proper care was taken. They also left dark brown adhesive all over my white gutters, which took nearly two months to get repaired. On top of that, their delivery truck cracked my concrete driveway. When I sent them an invoice for the damage, they refused it and gave me just 16 hours’ notice before showing up and doing concrete work without my permission, even after they were told not to because I had other contractors scheduled who needed to use the driveway. Throughout the process, I was met with excuses, poor communication, and a lack of accountability. Despite their many good reviews, my experience was the opposite. I would never recommend Fargo Roofing and Siding to anyone — I truly wish I could give 0 stars."

"I wanted to share how happy I am with the work done by Fargo Roofing & Siding. They recently replaced the roof on my house, and I’m really pleased with everything. The team was professional and got the job done quickly. The quality of their work was great. I especially want to mention the crew. Brian, the crew chief, knew exactly what he was doing and made sure everything was perfect. Andy, the job supervisor, kept me updated throughout the project. Overall, I’m really happy with Fargo Roofing & Siding and would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs roofing work. Thanks, Chad Rach"

"Customer service was great right from the first phone call I made for help. James Kast called me back right away and was here within an hour of my first phone call. James was very efficient, friendly and explained everything he found. Turned out vent cap I found on the ground after a strong wind came from my neighbors roof not mine. I wasn’t charged anything for his time even though I offered. If I ever need roof or siding work done, I will be hiring this company!"

"After a recent windstorm, I was worried about my roof as I was finding numerous shingles on the ground around my house. The next morning, I called All Over Roofing to see if they could come over to see what my situation was. Katie was very friendly and gave me the information I needed to know that they would be sending a crew to my house as soon as one was available. They showed up exactly when they said they would, checked out my roof and gave me the information I needed...come to find out that the shingles were from my neighbor's house:) Anyway, I was impressed with the service and am highly recommending this company for anyone needing work to their roofs!"

Before any contractor joins our North Dakota network we pull and verify:
Our regional ops team re-verifies every contractor's documentation every 12 months. We remove any contractor who fails re-verification from the network within 30 days. Network contractors are independent businesses, not employees of RoofPros USA.
We match homeowners with vetted, licensed local roofers in thousands of cities nationwide. Explore some of the largest metros we serve.
If more than 25% of your shingles show storm damage, granule loss, lifting, or curling, full replacement usually beats patch repair on lifecycle cost. North Dakota insurance carriers also use this threshold — once 25% of a roof slope is damaged by a covered peril, most policies pay to replace the entire slope rather than repair it. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) treats 25% as the standard repair-vs-replace inflection point.
For a typical 2,000 sq ft (≈22-square) North Dakota home with architectural shingle, plan on $13,800 including tear-off, decking inspection, ice-and-water shield, drip edge, and a manufacturer-registered warranty. Standing-seam metal runs roughly 2–3× that figure but lasts 40–70 years. Repair-only jobs run $380–$1,800 with $1,100 the average roofing-repair-project spend.
Five red flags every North Dakota homeowner should watch for: (1) door-knockers showing up after a storm with no local address, (2) demands for full payment upfront — standard deposit is 25–30% with the balance due after final inspection, (3) no written, itemized estimate with named materials and brand, (4) verbal "guarantee" instead of a written manufacturer + workmanship warranty, and (5) no proof of $1M+ general liability insurance and workers compensation. Always verify the contractor in your state's online registry and the BBB before signing.
Late winter through early spring (typically February–April) is the cheapest time to schedule a North Dakota roof replacement. Demand is lowest, crews have open calendars, and contractors often discount 5–15%. Avoid the August–October peak when storm-damage claims spike. Schedule before hail season starts in your area. Emergency repairs are available year-round.
North Dakota requires a Contractor License from the Secretary of State for any work over $4,000.
Given North Dakota's humid continental to semi-arid climate, the most popular choices are standing-seam metal, Class 4 impact shingle. Local building practices, hail and wind risk, and snow load all factor in — your assigned local roofing contractor recommends the right system after a free inspection.
snow load is the leading roof issue in North Dakota, followed by ice damming and hail damage. Hail damage is a major insurance-claim driver here — Class 4 impact shingles are widely recommended.
Most North Dakota homeowners get a written, itemized quote within one business hour of submitting our online form. Your assigned roofing professional schedules an in-home inspection within 2–3 business days, and active leaks get same-day emergency tarping in major metros.
The 25% Rule in roofing serves as a guideline for both homeowners and contractors when planning roofing projects. Basically, it means that if more than 25% of your roof's surface needs repairs, it's often wiser to contemplate a full replacement rather than patchwork.
The national average cost to replace a 1,200 sq. ft. roof is $5,700 to $12,000, with most homeowners spending around $8,400 on architectural shingles installed on a cross gable roof. This project's low cost is $3,600 for 3-tab shingles installed on a gable roof.
Fall is considered the best time to schedule a roofing project because it often boasts the best temperature range for roof installation. The weather has cooled off from summer highs, but it hasn't gotten too cold yet.
Roof-Master matches you with a vetted North Dakota licensed contractor in your zip within minutes.
